I’m the artist.

…on a comic called Red Skirts that launched today for Free Comic Book Day (2015)
RedSkirtsOnline.com is where you go to read about the 5-woman security squad for the GGC Audacity, which is a starship flying through the cosmos.  It’s based on our love of 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s science fiction shows, which if you grew up in that era you were blessed because you had Jason of Star Command, Star Trek, Space: 1999, and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, you had so many great shows.

This is kind of our love letter for that.

We took the idea of the Redshirts being Star Trek security teams that always beamed down and end up getting killed.  Well, Dave and I were out one day, out to dinner one time, and he said I have an idea for something, but all I have are the words “Red Skirts.”  So I said, “Stop there.  You’ve hit gold.  Let me write this.”

We have come up with so much material for this, it’s just amazing how far and how epic this story is going to become.  This is your real opportunity to jump in at the very beginning.  We just put the first page up online and the first story arc, we’re actually going to wait until Phoenix ComiCon (2015) and we’re going to start the first page of the first adventure.  This’ll give everybody a chance to get used to the website, make it part of their routine, find out what it’s all about, and then just start coming every week for a new episode, a new page in the saga of the Red Skirts.

Artistically, I can say we’re trying to do something kind of new.  We’re combining CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) and painted effects with hand-drawn characters and trying to give it its own kind of unique look and if you’re familiar with a lot of the shows from the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s that were Science Fiction genre, you’re going to see a lot of neat little nods to things, some things you might recognize, so there will always be all kinds of fun things to see and find and discover.  So, maybe every time you come to it, you might find something new.  We’re really excited about it.  We think people are going to really like it.

And, my name is Al Sparrow and I approve this message and we’ll see you at Phoenix ComiCon!
